Welcome!

At VolkLibre! we provide a place for indie artists and self-employed folks to help each other thrive - while building a creative culture that values our floating orb. We utilize the internet to create a large-scale 'Common Security Club' (see http://commonsecurityclub.org/), facilitating groups around the world to come together in their communities while tapping into a larger pool of progressive knowledge and ideas. There are three basic benefits: mutual support, shared resources and information, and collaborative action.

We welcome superheroes, artists, artisans, crafters/makers, musicians, poets/writers, performers, community organizers, environmentalists, homemakers, students, teachers, parents, activists, independent businesses & self-employed individuals, artisans, farmers -- really, pretty much anyone interested in arts cultures, sustainable living, social justice or the General Q.O.L. (Quality of Life).

With V.L. groups and forums, members share info & collaborate on projects, incubate ideas, form purchasing groups and crafting clubs, participate in ride shares, barter, organize events + more. Small businesses and those self-employed (including artists/musicians/performers etc) can share information on sustainable practices, industry tips & resources, as well as team up with others for promotional efforts & other opportunities. For the individual, it's a way to take action; to engage in discussions, form groups, organize campaigns, & publish blogs or videos that are in line with our mission.

Here are a few suggestions to get you started:

--Upload pics of your own crafts, art, videos, MP3s, writings, & a link to your website on your personal page.

--Create a profile for your biz or etsy site & add it to the “Buy Local!” group so members can check it out & support you.

-- Start a blog of interest for us to feature on our main page.

--Post events that you’re holding or that you think would be of interest to other members,

--Join existing groups or start one on a topic you see a need for.

--Create a group page for an existing group you belong to - be it band, town, neighborhood, association, non-profit, PTA, knitting club, employees, business network - whatever! It's a great way to organize your members in a place where you can share info or collaborate with similar groups.

-- If you want to get more involved, talk to us about being a group moderator or a number of other situations that you can find on our “Get Volked!” page under the “All About V.L." tab.

coffee house outside of the box???

Ok, new thoughts and not sure where to go with them, but needing to make serious decisions. I have wanted to open a coffee house for 30 years but never had the wherewithall to put it into motion. I am tired of what i do and need to change. I really want to have a fully organic, sustainable, music venue house. I don't really want to open another "restaurant" so I am thinking outside of the box. I would love to have some input from others on this.

What I want to do is to fi

Extending the Life of Textiles

Yesterday, as I was mending a torn blanket, using brightly contrasting embroidery stitches, I remembered sashiko. A traditional form of japanese quilting and embroidery, this was more than just a type of stitching, it was a method for extending the life of textiles, while providing insulation and padding too for certain chores such as hauling. Textiles began as formal wear clothes. Once they were no longer suitable, they were demoted to work clothes. The clothes were layered, then stitched to

Support the Philadelphia Music Scene, Petition to stop Philadelphia from Passing a "Promoter" BIll

Hey Everyone,

So, Philadelphia officials are proposing a "Promoter" Bill that will force any venue to submit applications 30 days prior to every event. The purpose is to show proof of contracts between promoter and venue, permits, liquor license and security plans. Then it is up to the Philadelphia Police Department to decide whether or not an event can happen.

This will stop a lot of events from happening in Philadelphia. Which will stop people from coming to the city, enjoy… Continue

Who wouldn't want to go to USC?

Now she's rather ambivalent about actually going to USC for grad school, or grad school at all, for that matter.

I'm a HUGE history buff. Film, American History, Technology - I love it all. So listen to this - the School of Cinematic Arts at USC was founded by Douglas Fairbanks. Founding Faculty include DW Griffith, William C. DeMille, and Darryl Zanuck. Wow! Never mind it's funded by George Lucas. Never mind that Opie went there.

Parent's can't actually influence their kids d… Continue
